Full size Chevy truck door panels
This is a shot of the drivers door with the removeable grill in place. The rear portion of the door with the carpet had originally extended down to a pocket that run along the bottom of the door, up to the very front. This was removed and the carpet was reglued to accomodate the blending in of the new panel.
Same door
Here is the door with the grille removed. I'm not a big fan of seeing mounting screws so a press fit plexiglass panel was made to trim the speakers. The drivers are an Alpine 8" typeS subwoofer at the bottom for midbass, and an alpine 6.5" component set up top.
Zoomed
Here it is zoomed in a bit.
Backside
This is the back of the doorpanel showing the bumpout that was necessary to mount the two big drivers. The alpine 8" was extremely deep (I certainly didn't pick it for this appication!) and not to much fun to fit in the door without protruding to far into the interior. The 6.5" actually became a problem as well, so both were recessed into the door. Also visible in this picture is how I made the rear of the panel out of two interlocking pieces, you can see the seam running around the entire edge. I did this to allow me to reinforce and brace the interior of the door panel from the backside (it's heavy) after the intitial layer of t-shirt material was hardened. This method also allowed me to fiberglass the recess for the large magnets in the back wall of the door panel. I taped off the magnets of both drivers and fiberglassed them right in place as to not make the door panel any deep than necessary. Once it was all nice and strong I simply inserted the piece, glued, screwed and stapled it back together and bolted it to the door.
